Holy Land Blessed Gerard Campaign

07/01/2025

Dear Members of the Scandinavian Association,

Due to the dire situation in the Middle East, the Sovereign Order of Malta has decided to launch a fundraising campaign for the Order’s activities in the Holy Land, especially in Lebanon and the Gaza strip. The campaign goes under the name Holy Land Blessed Gerard Campaign.

In Lebanon, our brothers and sisters from the Lebanese Association of the Order are currently working at the risk of their lives to provide medical care for the people. Our additional support will enable them to provide care to even more people.

Through its Association in Lebanon and Malteser International, the Order of Malta is at the forefront in providing basic healthcare and social support services to the population through a network of 60 projects focusing on health, social assistance and agro-humanitarian initiatives. To address the crisis of large numbers of internally displaced persons, the Order of Malta has implemented several interventions in the regions of Akkar, Tripoli/Zgharta, Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Chouf, Jezzine, Western Bekaa, Baalback Hermel and Rass Baalback. So far, it has set up an outpatient clinic in the Ain el Remmaneh shelter, it is also offering medical examinations and medicines with the support of the field teams of its nine Community Health Centres and eight Mobile Medical Units. It is also distributing daily hot meals through its permanent and mobile community kitchens in collective shelters across the country.

His Excellency Bishop Czeslaw Kozon, bishop of Copenhagen and Chief Chaplain of the Scandinavian Association of the Order of Malta has expressed his endorsement for this fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the Order of Malta’s healthcare activities in Lebanon: “Lebanon’s healthcare system is under extreme pressure due to ongoing conflicts and crises. Supporting healthcare initiatives in Lebanon is vital for addressing immediate humanitarian needs, strengthening the country’s resilience, and laying the foundation for long-term health and stability.”

To be able to make some real impact, the goal for the Scandinavian Association is to raise at least
SEK 60.000 (€ 5.300) for the Order’s health care projects in Lebanon. It is an ambitious goal, but not an unattainable one!

You will find some more information in the attached pdf-file.

Confraternal greetings and thank you in advance for your generous donations,
